Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge is a not-for-profit organisation providing Whānau services for wāhine and their tamariki affected by domestic violence in the Porirua district.
Our main objective is to help keep you safe.
We provide the following support and services:
- We specialise in risk assessment, analysis and safety planning
- 24/7 Domestic Violence Crisis Line: 0800 733 843 (0800 REFUGE)
- 24/7 Whare Ora (safe house shelter)
- Onsite pet shelter
- Whānau Protect (home security upgrades and alarms)
- Home visits and outreach support and information
- Advocacy and support with other organisations including NGOs, Government agencies such as Work and Income, Police and Housing NZ
- Porirua Kapiti Mana - Cultural Service for Elder Abuse Response
Domestic violence can happen in any home regardless of culture, ethnicity or income. Victims may be in intimate partnerships, same-sex, transgender or non-binary relationships. No one deserves to be abused and domestic violence is never OK.
Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge is provided by Te Whare Tiaki Wāhine Refuge Charitable Trust.

The Porirua Kapiti Mana service spans from Newlands, Johnsonville, to Haywards Hill and through to Pukerua Bay., This Cultural Service for the Elder Abuse Response Service is additional to the overall EARS service provided by Wesley Community Action. So only older people who identify from the cultural groups above, and who live in the wider Porirua region will be covered by the Tiaki Cultural EAR Service., Cultures covered include Maori and Pasifika as well as ‘Ethnic Aotearoa.’ This includes Asian, African, Continental European, Latin American and Middle Eastern.
