Description
Hiringa Oranga o Awarua Ltd, trading as Awarua Whānau Services delivers Kaupapa Māori Health and Social services that supports, whānau to achieve their wholistic wellbeing aspirations. We work with whānau (families) hapu mothers, (pregnant Mothers) tamariki, (children) Rangatahi, (Youth) Pakeke (Parents) and Kaumātua ( treasured elderly).
As a non-government organisation (NGO) we are primarily funded to work with Māori whānau achieve health however our health and social services are available to all population groups across Otago and Southland communities we work within.

Health Services we provide include: Mauri Ora - a team of health professionals offer support, education, advice and care in all areas of health. Mother and Pepi - an educational programme providing skills and practical support to help you and your whanau prepare for the new arrival. Tamariki Ora / Well Child - a screening, surveillance, education and support service offered to all NZ tamariki and their whanau from birth to 5 years. Waewae-MiriMiri clinic - provides foot care and massage for kaumatua/kuia aged 60 years and over. Offered in the Bluff area only. Te Kakano / Health Clinics Our health clinics are held in Invercargill, Mataura and Gore, Milton, Alexandra and Cromwell. Services include: Rangatahi checks Cervical smears Sexual health checks and contraception advice Pregnancy testing Weight monitoring Blood sugar and blood pressure checks Heart, diabetes and breathing checks to identify your risk of illness Access to a podiatrist Access to a dietitian Helping you to develop a health plan to meet your goals Helping you know who and what is available to meet your health needs For information on our Te Kakano click here

Social Services we provide include: Supported Bail - a one-on-one programme for young people who are not meeting the conditions of their bail to try and comply with bail conditions and reduce their offending. Tahuri Atu / About Face - a programme that aims to help rangatahi 13-17 years who have a Family Group Conference plan in place, to achieve the outcomes as set out in the FGC plan. Whanau Tautoko - promotes independence and positive change for whanau / families by providing care and support, budgeting advice and advocacy.
