Auckland City Hospital is New Zealand's largest public hospital and clinical research facility. As one of the leading public healthcare providers in the country, it is committed to excellence in patient care, research, training, and community service.
The hospital brings together the services of Greenlane Clinical Centre and the National Women's Hospital into one building, and links with Starship Children's Hospital.
Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland is the largest trainer of doctors in New Zealand, with approximately 1,477 medical staff.
Auckland City Hospital has the largest elective surgery delivery system in the country with 23,000 patient discharges every year. The hospital undertakes an average of 30,000 acute surgical discharges and 66,000 acute medical and rehabilitation discharges every year.

Public Transport
Buses
Buses are available outside the Main Entrance on Park Road.

Taxis
A taxi phone is located in the Main Entrance on Level 4, and at the entrance to the Emergency Department. Taxi ranks are located outside the Main Entrance (Level 4).
Waitemata Shuttle Service
This shuttle provides transport assistance for people living in the Waitemata area with an appointment at Auckland City Hospital. For more information please call 0800 809 342 or 09 426 0918 or download the Community Shuttle information sheet.
Cycling
Cycle storage is available for visitors in the entrance to Car Park A at Auckland City Hospital. Bring your own lockable chain. You can check out cycle paths around the area on Auckland Transport’s website
Trains
Auckland City and Starship Children's Hospital are served by Grafton Station - Western Line - an 8-minute walk and Newmarket Station - Eastern and Southern lines - 12-minute walk.
Parking
There are two carparks at Auckland City and Starship Children's Hospital.
Visitors and patients to Auckland City Hospital should use Carpark A. This is situated at the front of the hospital and accessed from Park Road. There is also a free 15 minute drop off and pick up in this car park.
Visitors and patients to Starship Children’s Hospital should use Carpark B behind Starship, which is accessed from Grafton Road or Park Road.
Disability parking & wheelchairs
Disability parking is available in both Car Park A & Car Park B. There are wheelchair bays on ALL levels. Wheelchair assistance is available at the main entrance, or ask at the reception desk on Level 5.
Public Parking Fees
If you are a patient or close family member who needs to use the carpark for an extended period then please talk to your Charge Nurse if you are facing financial pressures, as we may be able to help.

Emergency Department
For urgent or critical care, drivers should follow the signs to the Emergency Department which is clearly signposted from the entrance.
Transition Lounge Parking
Patients can wait in the comfort of the Transition Lounge after discharge while they are waiting for relatives to collect them. The Transition Lounge is located on Level 5 of the Support Building.
There is a free 15-minute drop off and pick up in car park A (opposite the Transition Lounge). There are also two car parking spaces, opposite the Transition Lounge, where people can park for five minutes while they pick up a discharged patient.
Accommodation
Te Whare Awhina
Te Whare Awhina is located on the Auckland City Hospital site and is available to whānau/family who meet the entry criteria.
Accommodation is short term and primarily for whānau of patients who live outside of the Greater Auckland region. Whānau who have a patient that resides in the Auckland region will be considered on a case by case basis. Patients themselves are not eligible for accommodation.
We can accommodate a maximum of 3 whānau members. Bedding, towels, and laundry facilities are provided. A kitchen is available but families must supply their own food. A bond of $20 is required upon registration. A fee may be charged if you are not eligible for a Ministry of Health subsidy.
All bookings must be made via a referral. If you need accommodation, ask your nurse, or one of the He Kamaka Waiora team.

Medications are dispensed to inpatients while they are in hospital, by the hospital pharmacy.

This is a retail pharmacy situated in the shopping area on Level 5.

Security
Security Officers are on duty 24 hours a day. They patrol all of the facilities on the hospital site.
The hospital and wards are locked down each night at 8pm and security guards are stationed at the Level 4 Main Entrance and the Accident and Emergency Department on Level 2.

Auckland City Hospital Retail Shops
Auckland City Hospital provides patients and visitors with a number of convenient shopping facilities. On Level 5 you will find a pharmacy, convenience store/florist, and bookstore/gift shop. These shops are open seven days and sell, among other things, phone cards, newspapers, toiletries, snacks and flowers. There is also a small shopping area across from the hospital on Park Road.

On Park Road, just two minute's walk from the hospital, there are several shops including eat-in or takeaway food, minimarts and a dairy.
Newmarket has a full range of shops. It is a 10-minute walk across the Domain or a quick trip on a Link Bus.
