Description

Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers (leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myeloproliferative neoplasms – MPNs) and serious blood conditions.

Since 1977, our work has been made possible through our fundraising events and the generous support we receive from individuals, companies, trusts and grants. We do not receive government funding.

Patient Support

LBC's Support Services provide personalised support programmes for patients and their families. This can include regular visits, phone or email contact, as well as face to face education. We run a number of support programmes including Kids' Club - a group held both online, and in-person in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch to support children aged between 5 and 12 who have a parent or sibling with a blood cancer.

We also provide a toll free number for advice, empathy and support.

Research

We contribute around half a million each year to cancer research. This includes supporting the Leukaemia & Blood Cancer Research Unit, funding independent blood cancer research projects, funding for those going through CAR T-cell trials via the Malaghan Institute, travel grants, summer studentships and PHD scholarships.

Information

We provide vital information to patients, families, health professionals and the community to improve understanding about blood cancers and conditions.

LBC produces a number of disease-specific information booklets including picture books written especially for children who have been diagnosed with a blood cancer, or for when a family member has been diagnosed.

Awareness

We work to increase public knowledge of blood cancers and conditions. This is achieved through specifically focused campaigns for the public, health professionals and health agencies.

Advocacy

We represent the needs of patients and their families to the government, related agencies and other relevant organisations.

Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand provides services and support throughout the country. Every person’s experience of living with a blood cancer or condition is different. Living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood condition is not easy, but you don’t have to do it alone.
