Description
Crisis Pregnancy Support is a free service offered by health care professionals (registered nurses and midwives) for women/wāhine and their whānau in the Wellington and Nelson regions. We offer practical care and emotional support for women/wāhine who find themselves in an unexpected pregnancy situation, or experiencing pregnancy loss including post-abortion care.
Our team understands the stress an unexpected or crisis pregnancy can bring and realise this can be a very overwhelming time. We take the time to go through the different options available. In New Zealand these options include continuing the pregnancy, adoption, whāngai, fostering, and abortion. Our approach enables woman/whānau the time to consider all options and make an informed choice. Our hope is to reduce isolation, build women’s self-confidence and resilience and enable them to create safer environments for them and their whānau.
Crisis Pregnancy Support offers:
Emotional Support
- We’re here to listen and to discuss any concerns you may have.
- Provide support as you consider your options, continuing throughout your pregnancy and postnatal period, if you need it.
- Assist in facilitating conversations with your partner, parents, or whānau if needed
- Help you recognise and develop your support networks.
Information and guidance
- Accessing medical care, including free pregnancy tests, finding a midwife, scheduling doctor’s appointments, and locating childbirth education resources.
- Navigating financial matters, such as budgeting, accessing food parcels, or seeking financial aid.
- Continuing your education journey during and after pregnancy.
Practical Assistance
- Attending medical appointments.
- Identifying suitable and affordable accommodation options.
