Description

Hohepa is a disability service provider catering for children and adults with an intellectual disability and/or autism, where respect, personal development and caring go hand-in-hand.  Inspired by the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, they provide a unique offering in the disability sector.

Four communities throughout New Zealand
Each Hohepa region is managed by a Regional Board and provides different supports and services.

Hohepa Auckland services cater for adults, with residential support and day services programmes. The Auckland service includes support to young adults making the transition from schooling into services and community of their choice.

Hohepa Hawkes Bay has a school and homes for children, and services for adults. The adult service includes a range of residential lifestyles and daytime “Vocational services”. The Hohepa School is unique in New Zealand as the only school where children can be placed in a residential service and attend the school as a part of that same service.

Hohepa Kapiti, Wellington is set on a five-hectare pocket of land at the edge of Paraparaumu.  The site enables space for work gardening and looking after animals like the chooks, while being easily within reach of community amenities and organisations in Paraparaumu. The train service means access to the Greater Wellington area is easy also.

Hohepa Canterbury supports youth and adults on their two campuses and living independently in the wider community. Canterbury also has a dementia friendly service that allows the people they support to ‘age in place’.

Hohepa Hawke’s Bay and Canterbury also own small farms providing for farm work experience with a range of on-site day activities. These day services are also available to people who are not part of the residential services.

Hohepa staff offer support to children, youth and adult service-users, helping them to lead lives filled with meaning and purpose.  All services actively seek to create opportunities enabling people with an intellectual disability to be a part of the local communities where they are located.
