Hospice Marlborough

Community Health Service

Description

Hospice Marlborough is privileged to provide compassionate, high-quality, specialist palliative care services for individuals of all ages facing life-limiting illnesses since 2003.

We offer support to patients, their whānau, and caregivers throughout their illness, end-of-life journey, and bereavement meeting the needs of our community through a holistic wrap around service of care. As a collective effort, our highly skilled team focus not only on physical symptoms but also social, emotional, and spiritual needs. Tailored to each patient and their whānau, our services are accessible across Marlborough in homes, aged-care facilities, hospitals, and our purpose-built hospice inpatient unit.

As an agile service provider and a charitable trust, we support and educate patients, whānau and our partners also supporting people through illness, death, and bereavement, ensuring patients, their whānau and their carers receive empathetic quality care and can live & die with compassion, dignity, in comfort & peace, preferably, in their place of choice.

Hospice Marlborough remains focused on increasing services out into the community, providing services earlier upstream to meet the increasing Marlborough community demand and we work collaboratively with our primary care colleagues and other community support agencies. Valuing individual cultural and diverse differences, Hospice Marlborough is also weaving the Mauri Mate Framework for Hospices into our approach to show our commitment to equality and biculturalism in practice with all age groups and ethnicities especially Māori and Pasifika.

Although our services are free, funding is necessary for us to deliver our services. We currently receive just over 50% of our funding from Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) relying on annual fundraising for the shortfall. We are grateful for the support of our corporate sponsors and the ongoing support of our community buying from our Charity shops, donating money/items, volunteering time, offering services in-kind, leaving bequests, or participating in our events. These continued acts of kindness and this generosity ensures we can continue to deliver vital palliative care across Marlborough, without charge.
