Today

Description

At NorthAble Matapuna Hauora, our journey began in 1989 with a small group of individuals who, with lived experience of disability, identified the lack of readily available information about disability services in Northland. From our humble beginnings as a Disability Information and Advisory Service (DIAS), we have evolved into a comprehensive organisation at the forefront of the disability sector in Te Taitokerau. Our commitment to fostering wellbeing and independence is reflected in the diverse services we offer:

  • NASC Service: Free assistance for eligible individuals with disabilities.
  • VHN Service: Ongoing support for those with Very High Needs.
  • Transition Service: Guiding students through post-education plans.
  • LYNKZ Programme: Empowering individuals aged 16-64 with disabilities.
  • Āhei Internship Programme: Providing meaningful work opportunities for youth with disabilities.
  • Whangārei Budgeting Services: Confidential financial support for effective money management.
  • EQ+: Northland’s largest supplier of equipment for impairments, including rentals.
  • DIAS: Offering relevant information for individuals, caregivers, and the public.
  • Total Mobility Programme: Aiding enhanced mobility for people with disabilities.

In 2005, we officially embraced the name NorthAble Matapuna Hauora, symbolising our commitment to a holistic approach to wellbeing. Under this banner, we continue to grow, incorporating new services to meet the ever-changing needs of our diverse population throughout Te Taitokerau and Aotearoa New Zealand. As an organisation, we take pride in our dedication to fostering inclusivity, independence, and wellbeing for all.

Referral

Our Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) requires a referral, found on our website. You may self-refer or be referred by someone supporting you. To be eligible for NASC, you will need a diagnosis of a disability lasting longer than 6 months that requires ongoing support.

Our Āhei internship is for youth (16 to 24) who identify with having a disability, including ADHD, but do not have to have a diagnosis to access. Visit our website and register your interest.

Enrolment form for LYNKZ may also be found on our website.

Walk in

If you have a disability-related query, our office is open for walk-ins. Either a Needs Assessment and Service Coordination Facilitator or the Disability Information and Advisory Consultant will be available to sit down and have a conversation with you.

Home visit provider

Our Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) team can come to your house for a Needs Assessment/Outcome Plan.

If you would like to have a demonstration of the equipment at your house to see if it works for your environment, our Equipment Plus (EQ+) store can bring the equipment to you.
