Description

People First New Zealand Ngā Tāngata Tuatahi is a Disabled People’s Organisation run by and for people with learning (intellectual) disability.

People First NZ:

  • speaks up about things that affect people with learning disability
  • speaks up for change to make things better.

People First NZ teaches people with learning disability about self-advocacy.

Self-advocacy is about:

  • knowing your rights
  • speaking up for your rights in your life, our community and to government.

There are many People First NZ groups around New Zealand. Groups meet every month.

Group meetings are a safe way to:

  • learn about your rights
  • speak up about things that are important to you.

Groups are where you can become a member.

To be a member of People First NZ you need to:

  • have a learning disability
  • be 18 years old or over.

It does not cost any money to be a member of People First NZ.
