Tui Ora is the largest community-based health and social services provider in Taranaki. We are a kaupapa Māori organisation built on the aspirations of all Taranaki iwi. 

Together we enhance whānau wellness and quality of living. We deliver our kaupapa out of four hubs across the rohe in New Plymouth, Waitara, Hāwera and Ōpunake.

Tui Ora provide a range of services, including:

Our Community and Cultural Services provide support for children/tamariki, youth/rangatahi, parents, aging persons/pāhake, and elders/kaumātua in all areas of wellbeing. This includes screening and prevention, cultural support, immunisations, parenting support, whānau ora and more.

Immunisation

Immunisation is the safest and most effective way to provide protection for you and your tamariki’s health. For more information view the NZ immunisation schedule. Flu and MMR vaccinations are available at our New Plymouth clinic, 36 Maratahu St, Monday to Friday. Outreach Immunisation Service: Our service provides immunisations to children aged from 0-5 years in a range of settings including the home. In particular we help tamariki who have fallen behind with scheduled vaccinations, and make a significant effort to trace and follow up referrals from GPs and practice nurses. A strong objective of our service is to link families back into other primary health services, including those provided by Tui Ora. Our staff include an immunisation coordinator and a registered nurse/vaccinator. We are a mobile service, working and travelling throughout the community one day a week.

Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is an important step you can take to protect yourself, your kaumātua and whānau from the effects of the virus. When the Nuvaxovid vaccine is given at the same time as the Shingrix shingles vaccine or the Fluad Quad flu vaccine, there may be a chance of experiencing a stronger post-vaccination response and you should discuss this with your vaccinator. Tamariki Ora / Well Child Nursing:

This is a free, mobile service operating in Mōkau, Waitara, Inglewood, Coastal Taranaki and New Plymouth. We help all whānau with tamariki/children aged from 6 weeks to 4 years, working alongside them so they can find their way forward on any issues around parenting and childcare. We provide Well Child checks, whānau support and information, as well as offering advice on nutrition, breastfeeding, immunisation, sleep and baby's growth. In addition, we can immunise children at home if whānau are not able to get to their GP. Care continues through to free B4 School checks with hearing and vision tests, early dental care, registration with dental services, as well as information and advocacy. Referrals Self All other referral sources including LMC Tiki Toa programme: Tiki Toa is a collaborative project with the Department of Conservation (DOC), Taranaki Mounga Project, Te Pihipihinga Kakano Mai I Rangiatea and Devon Intermediate. Kaimahi support taiohi to identify strengths, develop goals, and work towards their aspirations by developing a plan. Tui Ora Youth Service helps young people aged between 16-18 to access education, training or work-based learning. Tiaki Ūkaipō Breastfeeding & Community Support: Our programme supports mothers with their breastfeeding. Mothers are given one on one support and advice from a lactation consultant or, if appropriate, a peer supporter. These are other mothers, trained to provide a listening ear and advice to ensure a positive outcome for mother and baby when breastfeeding is a challenge. Home visits and clinics are available. Taranaki Stop Smoking Service: The Taranaki Stop Smoking Service is delivered by qualified Quit Coaches providing group programmes, clinics or one-on-one support. The service is free, confidential, and we can come to you at any time - wherever you are. We know quitting is tough and group programmes enable you to give up alongside family, friends, or work colleagues. Chances are, if those around you are determined o break the habit, you will be too. The programme includes weekly support and on enrolment we can provide free patches, lozenges and gum, as well as advice on vaping. Referrals The Smoking Cessation Referral pathway is simple. People are referred via best practice (GPs), a smoking cessation form (Te Whatu Ora / TDHB), or TSSS referral form (all other referrers including self-referrals). Nutrition and Physical Activity: This programme is designed to provide communities, groups and whānau across Taranaki with opportunities to improve regular physical activity and increase knowledge of healthy eating. Injury Prevention: The programme focuses on reducing injuries among children. This is delivered through community prevention education and other programmes alongside Kidsafe Taranaki Trust and New Pymouth Injury Safe Trust.

Taranaki Suicide Prevention and Postvention

Service helps promote and coordinate actions undertaken by existing Taranaki services contributing to suicide prevention and postvention. This includes increasing community awareness, coordinating training, education, and supporting communities to design their own initiatives to reduce self-harm and suicide. Coordinator can facilitate workshops to businesses and organisations to inform about prevention, myths and facts, and how to initiate conversations.

Service helps promote and coordinate actions undertaken by existing Taranaki services contributing to suicide prevention and postvention. This includes increasing community awareness, coordinating training, education, and supporting communities to design their own initiatives to reduce self-harm and suicide. Coordinator can facilitate workshops to businesses and organisations to inform about prevention, myths and facts, and how to initiate conversations.

There is emphasis on pathway planning - supporting the whānau to plan for the future, set goals, make changes and advance their aspirations. Asthma Nursing Support Service: Our registered nurse focuses on supporting and educating people so they can manage their asthma to maintain optimal health and wellbeing. This includes facilitating self-management plans with GPs, tailored to individual needs, and working alongside other services as appropriate. We can provide education on what asthma is, medications, trigger identification and management, symptom monitoring, managing an asthma emergency, and healthy lifestyles. We can provide educational sessions at home, on the marae, preschools, workplaces, or any other locations as required. Rongoā Māori | Māori healing

"Ko au te rongoā, ko te rongoā ko au". Rongoā Māori is the traditional healing systems of tangata whenua in Aotearoa. It uses intergenerational wisdom and knowledge handed down through time connecting us to the pure essence of Papatūānuku. It helps us to release the burdens of the day and to realign and ignite our wairua with the beating heart of our whenua. Te Kete Rongoā is delivered to you by the knowledgeable hands of tangata whenua right here in Taranaki. Focusing on the oral transmission of knowledge through karakia and whakawhitiwhiti kōrero, diversity of practices and the spiritual dimension of hauora included in mirimiri. Our kairongoā practitioner holds these taonga of physical therapies and spiritual healings to offer it to our whānau - ngā iwi o Taranaki. Available in New Plymouth.
