Description

Hestia provides comprehensive family violence services for women and children who have experienced or are experiencing abuse in their home and live in the Hibiscus Coast and Rodney region. 

Locations we cover: Ōrewa, Hibiscus Coast, Dairy Flat, Coatsville, Warkworth, Matakana, Leigh, Mangawhai, Wellsford, Te Hana, Helensville, and Highway 16.

We can meet with you at home or another safe place to discuss your experiences and choices, help you to make safe plans for yourself and your children. Our refuge workers are experienced and provide confidential, non-judgmental support, whether or not you choose to leave the relationship. We can also help you with WINZ, lawyers, courts, housing etc and walk alongside you as you work towards achieving your goals and regaining safety.

We offer crisis assistance on a 24/7 crisis line and immediate emergency needs e.g. clothing, food parcels, access to medical assistance to replace prescriptions and requirements for children such as formula and bottles.

When needed we also provide a safe house service which is based in the Rodney district.

If rehousing is necessary to gain safety we can assist with provision of furniture and household items.

Our advocacy services are free.

Our community advocates work between the hours above, however we are available on our crisis line 24 hours a day. We will do admissions to our safe house 24 hours a day.

Abuse and violence support

Our safe house is set up in a confidential and violence free environment where your privacy is assured. Children’s facilities and advocate support are also available. We also provide community based support for families who do not need to access our safe house. We refer to other services for education programmes, supervised contact and support groups. We provide counselling for Maori.

Refuge advocates work in the community to provide you and your children with support including: individual safety plans making referrals to services such as counselling, doctors and support programmes helping when you go to Work and Income and with any benefits you may be entitled to helping find the right lawyer for you and supporting you when visiting them supporting you in court, including getting safely to and from the building and helping you with preparation providing transport to access the above if no other resources are available. The Maori community advocate provides crisis support for Maori wahine and their tamariki who are affected by family violence.

Cultural Support

We support women of all cultures. We have Maori advocates working with Maori within a tikanga model. We seek guidance from Shakti Asian Women's Refuge when working with Asian women and from Pacific Island Women's Refuge when working with women from the Pacific Islands.
