Description

Our Refuge Services provide support and advocacy for women and children who are experiencing family violence. We operate a community office, safe house and 24/7 crisis line. Our office is open from 9am until 4:00pm every working day. Our 24/7 Crisis Line is operational 24 hours per day/ 7 days per week.

We are here to provide confidential services that are tailored to your needs. Should you, or someone you know, need support, advice or general information you are welcome to make contact with one of our Advocates.

We can provide crisis intervention through:

  • Emergency safe housing for you and your children if there is a current and critical risk to your immediate safety and you have no where else you can go. For example, the police have been called to secure your safety because you are in imminent danger. We do not have transitional or emergency housing. Due to the communal living arrangements at our Safehouse, we are not able to provide Safehouse support to people with significant mental health and drug and alcohol issues. We reserve the right to make our own assessment of a persons situation coupled with our current client situation at the Safehouse before agreeing to admit anyone.
  • On a case by case basis, we are able to assist women with transport to a safe location if the Safehouse is not an appropriate option for them
  • Information on legal issues
  • Safety planning
  • Referrals to other support agencies

Our advocates provide support to women and children who do not enter the safehouse including:

  • On-going support and assistance to women after they leave refuge
  • Community visits where safe
  • Confidential, non judgmental support
  • Advocacy when dealing with police, legal, court, WINZ, housing, doctors, immigration, schools and Oranga Tamariki
  • Referrals to counsellors, doctors, lawyers and other support services

We also offer:

Whānau Protect - The National Home Safety Service - Whānau Protect, is available to victims of family violence who are at high risk of repeat family violence that is likely to cause serious physical injury or death
