Starfish Social Services is a not-for-profit professional counselling, education, and social service that works across the Matamata-Piako District. We provide wrap around services to create opportunity for change and to help build positive relationships between people.

 Our service is open to all, and we exist to help work through life’s challenges. 

We work to reduce any risk that may be present and enhance wellbeing. Support can be one-on-one or in a group, through services such as counselling, mentoring, social work, family harm prevention and suicide prevention.

Our team consists of counsellors, social workers, tutors and mentors who are highly trained professionals.

Our Building Capability to Employment Service provides intensive support to eligible beneficiaries (18-64) with the aim of further equipping them to be prepared to enter the workforce. We also offer Youth Entrepreneur/Workplace Ready Programmes. Starfish recognises the benefits of young people having mentors in their lives, which includes reduced offending, reduced bullying and other anti-social behaviours and increased community participation. Starfish also is the local provider for Matamata and Morrinsville for Youth Services. Starfish provide a mobile service and aim to support young people into education, training or work-based learning whilst providing wellbeing support, the ultimate goal is for an independent future.
