What is dental care?
Dental care is about looking after your child / teenager's teeth. This is important as healthy baby teeth are needed for eating, smiling and talking. Keeping teeth clean and healthy while you're young means you enter adulthood with a bright, healthy smile.
What to expect:
Our dental services are delivered across the Bay of Plenty through community dental clinics and mobile units. Te Manu Toroa is a kaupapa Māori provider offering dental services in the Western Bay.
Under 5 year olds:
- Babies are enrolled from birth. To find out more ask your Well Child / Tamariki Ora provider or call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583)

Teenagers up to their 18th birthday are still entitled to free basic dental care from selected dental providers. Make sure your teenager is enrolled before they turn 18, so they don't miss out.

Government Funded/Subsidised Dental Care
Children
Free dental care to children from birth through to the end of school year 8 (second year of intermediate school).
Adolescents
Free dental care for adolescents from the beginning of year 9 (first year of high school) until their 18th birthday.
