Profile

Grabiel was born in Hong Kong and moved to New Zealand with her family during her primary school years.  She attended Diocesan School for Girls and studied Medicine at the University of Otago.  After spending a few years as a junior doctor in public hospitals in Auckland and gaining her Diploma in Child Health, Grabiel went to Ireland and worked as a GP in a semi-rural community, where she also obtained the Family Planning Certificate (Irish College of General Practitioners).  This turned out to be a very interesting and valuable experience which led her to decide to specialise in General Practice.  She came back to New Zealand to complete her vocational training with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.  Subsequently Grabiel gained a postgraduate Certificate in Primary Skin Cancer Medicine with the University of Queensland.  She is fluent in Cantonese and can speak basic Mandarin.  Grabiel skis, surfs, runs and plays the piano.  She and Jeff have one daughter together.

She is a fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
