Description

Te Whānau Rangimarie is a Māori community organisation that provides social support and advocacy, family violence support services, counselling  and programmes, women's safe housing, transitional housing and community education.

The purpose of the Trust is to:

  • provide social, economic, education and health support services from a Tikanga Māori philosophy for persons that require advocacy and support and may be at risk of harm or harming and/or at risk of homelessness or are homeless;
  • provide services and courses aimed at supporting individual and whānau plan towards positive life changes;
  • provide social, emergency, transitional and/or affordable housing and related services to meet the needs of the community;
  • ensure services offer a whole of whānau approach that is child focused and addresses the holistic needs of the whānau;
  • promote ongoing support of professional development for staff to work in a culturally appropriate manner according to kaupapa Māori;
  • to seek, accept and receive donations, subsidies, grants, endowments, gifts, legacies, loans, bequest in order to maintain the above aims, goals and objectives; and
  • provide other support and assistance consistent with this charitable purpose.

To achieve the purpose of the Trust, a variety of education courses are provided internally and partnerships are formed with external providers for specialist services outside of our scope. The Trust also offers an emergency transitional housing service as well as a Women's safe house.

In addition, social work advocacy and support services are provided by the Trust to support with improving overall safety and well-being for individuals and families.

We provide the support and information you need when you’re dealing with violence in your life. Violence is never okay.

No one deserves to be abused, and we are always here to help you. At Women’s Refuge, we won’t judge you. We will listen to you and support you to make choices for your safety. Kia kaha.

Our free confidential services include:

  • 24 Hour crises line, 0800 MANAAKI
  • 24/7 access to our safe house - assessment pending
  • Home and community visits
  • Advocacy when dealing with police, legal, court, WINZ, housing, doctors, immigration, schools and Oranga Tamariki
  • Referrals to counsellors, doctors, lawyers and other support services
  • Education for women and children about living free from violence
  • Information and presentations to community groups, schools and workplace as part of our Workplace Refuge training
