Dr Diederik Meylemans

Dr. Diederik Meylemans earned his MD with Magna Cum Laude honors from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, in 2009, before specializing in general surgery. Since 2015, he has served as a surgeon and completed a 12-month postgraduate fellowship in complex abdominal wall repair and coloproctology at Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden, Belgium. He also spent nearly two years as a senior clinical fellow in the Colorectal Department of Oxford University Hospitals.

Since 2018 Dr. Meylemans has been practicing as a General and Acute Surgeon at Auckland City Hospital, where he started in the colorectal unit. His focus now lies primarily on the treatment of hernia and acute surgical patients. His areas of special interest include hernia and abdominal wall pathology, as well as benign and malignant conditions of the small bowel and colon.

Dr. Meylemans is actively involved in clinical research and has initiated a PhD program aimed at optimizing the outcomes and management of inguinal hernia surgery. His research has led to several peer-reviewed publications and presentations at both national and international conferences.
