Introduction
I am a New Zealand trained orthopaedic surgeon, with extensive experience in fulltime private practice since 2008. I specialise in knee and hip joint replacements, and all knee reconstructive surgery, in particular sports knee arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction. I have a particular interest in robotic assisted knee replacement surgery.
I was born and raised in Auckland. I graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1997. Following this I successfully completed the advanced surgical training program of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, and gained my specialist qualification FRACS (Ortho) in 2005.
I subsequently had extensive specialised knee and hip fellowship training in the UK and Australia, over a 2 year period, before returning to NZ in 2008.
I am married with three teenaged children. I am also proud of my Tongan/German heritage and see myself as a role model for young Pasifika people.
I focus on the surgical treatment of hip and knee arthritis and sports knee reconstruction. I utilise modern surgical techniques, in combination with advanced anaesthetic care and patient specific post-operative rehabilitation. Of particular interest, I perform state-of-the-art robotic knee replacement surgery, which is revolutionising total knee joint replacement surgery. I also perform patient specific hip replacement surgery using customised 3D printed guides.
I like to take the time to listen, learn and understand exactly what the patient’s problem is, and what their goals of treatment are. I will then personalize the care and treatment for each patient to optimise their care, in order to get the best result for them.

What is Orthopaedics?
This is an area that deals with conditions of the musculoskeletal system (disorders of bones and joints of the limbs and spine). The specialty covers a range of different types of conditions starting with congenital (conditions which children are born with) through to degenerative (conditions relating to the wearing out of joints). The field of orthopaedics covers trauma where bones are broken or injuries are sustained to limbs.
