There are no fees for services to public patients if you are lawfully in New Zealand and meet one of the eligibility criteria set by the Ministry of Health. If you do not meet the criteria, you will be required to pay for the full cost of any medical treatment you recieve during your stay.

The Community Mental Health Teams are made up of health professionals who provide a range of specialist mental health services for people aged 18 years and over who have been diagnosed with a significant mental illness. We will also see people aged 16 or 17 if they have left school. Appointments will be at the Community Mental Health office nearest you and/or when appropriate, in your home or workplace. We also see people at Medical Centres if appropriate.

Community Programmes is a specialist mental health service, providing assessment, treatment and a recovery orientated group programme for individuals with a moderate – serious mental illness. There are two parts to our service:

The Southland Maternal Mental Health Team provides a free service to the Southland district. This service is available to all women who have a known or suspected mental health disorder, during pregnancy and for one year following birth. The service provides quality care for women who may be experiencing difficulties relating to mental health (baby and family/whānau), throughout her antenatal, birth, and postnatal experience, which promotes respect, dignity and acceptance within the community and promotes optimum mental health for mother.

Day Activity Centres are a community based day activity service for people who have been referred through the Mental Health Services and have agreed Management Plans.
