CAMHS is a specialist mental health service for pre-schoolers, children/tamariki & adolescents/rangatahi and their families/whānau who are experiencing serious mental health difficulties or co-existing disorders (mental health and substance use).
CAMHS are located in the Community Village at Palmerston North Hospital and at the Horowhenua Health Centre and also provide outpatient services in Feilding, Pahiatua and Dannevirke.
We offer a mixture of individual, family and group work from a range of professions including Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Social Work. CAMHS are able to access support services to enhance and encourage the recovery of our clients. We also provide a crisis service during the hours of 8.30 to 3.30 Mon to Fri. This includes Te Matai House, a respite house on the outskirts of Palmerston North which provides a safe and supportive environment for our young people. We are also able to utilise the support of The Rangatahi Unit, which is based in Porirua. Te Rangatahi Unit is an inpatient unit for our acute clients.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is an interdisciplinary service with clinical social workers, clinical psychologists, mental health nurses, a paediatrician, occupational therapists and psychiatrists who provide care for children, youth and their families.

Following assessment, clients are assigned a keyworker, with psychiatry, medical, dietitian and psychology input being individualised to their treatment plan. MidCentral has the ability to uterlise the CREEDS eating disorder residential facility in Johnsonville for 16 years and older.
