IDDD provide psychiatric support to people with an intellectual disability and a serious co-existing mental health issue. We work with Tangata Whaiora, whānau, and support services to improve and manage mental health wellness.

The IDDD service is a small team consisting of a part time Consultant Psychiatrist and two full time Registered Nurses. The team is also supported by a Clinical Nurse Manager and administrator.
The service does not currently offer psychology, social work, or occupational therapy services. Once accepted, a patient will be allocated a key worker who will offer case management in the community.

The IDDD service works with Tangata Whaiora, whānau, and support staff to help facilitate the optimal care of the complex health needs of those diagnosed with an intellectual disability and serious mental health issues requiring specialist psychiatric input. A dual diagnosis client may require care from either the IDDD Service or an Adult Mental Health service depending on their specific needs. The most appropriate service to meet these needs will be determined clinically. The IDDD service can only enrol Hamilton residents, but may be able to provide psychiatric advice for people living within the Waikato region. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the following services: IQ testing Counselling services Needs assessments for funding of services Behaviour management Accommodation provision or other support services

Referral Process
IDDD is a specialist service requiring a GP referral via the Waikato DHB - Triage Service. The Triage Team will forward appropriately completed referrals to IDDD for acceptance or decline. The IDDD Team will review the referral and advise the referrer of the outcome.
It is an expectation that the referring GP remain the primary physician and continue to provide care and management of the Tangata Whaiora's physical health needs.

Parking is limited. We have two free visitor's parks at the side of the building, and a public disability carpark on the road in front of the building.
