Recovery focused service for those people affected by mental illness and alcohol and/or drug misuse. The service works with individuals aged 18 years or older who have mental illness and alcohol and/or drug misuse. This service is for those who have a mental health problem that is worsened by the misuse of substances or substance abuse issues. Services are delivered in a manner that is culturally appropriate. They are holistic addressing all issues affecting one’s wellbeing. Referrals will be made with the individuals consent to other services for specialised or other services. Services are community based and include home based delivery. Whānau involvement is encouraged wherever possible.

It promotes healthy lifestyle and healthy choices for individuals and their whānau. Education is provided to support individuals and/or their whānau achieve optimum wellness. The service is available to anyone who identifies they need support to reduce alcohol and drug related misuse. The service will also work with whānau to support them to better understand what their whānau member is going through, the impact this may have on them, ways to cope and where to seek help.

CAYAD uses a community action approach to engage communities to address the conditions and environments in which young people live that increase the risk of their harmful use of alcohol and other drugs. The focus of the work CAYAD does is on increasing informed community discussion and debate about issues related to alcohol and other drugs; working with others to adopt effective policies and practices to reduce alcohol and other drug related harm; increasing local capacity to support young people in education, employment and recreation; and reducing supply of alcohol and other drugs to young people. CAYAD works with populations in communities so is able to work with hapū, marae, Iwi, schools, Sports Clubs, and other groups in our community.
