Description
Wingspan (formerly Home & Family Counselling) is committed to providing a high standard of professional counselling that remains affordable (voluntary contribution basis) and accessible to all.
We deliver counselling services to support people impacted by or perpetrating violence. The services work to reduce the devastating longer-term impacts that violence and sexual harm have on people, their families, whānau, and communities across New Zealand.
We have a credible record of achieving positive outcomes for our clients. We provide short-medium term counselling for children and their families, youths and adults to support them with a wide range of issues. We also run youth group programmes in schools. As New Zealand's second oldest charity, we have been helping people in need since 1893 - so there really isn't much we haven't already heard about or assisted clients with.
Types of counselling issues include:
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
- Anxiety
- Abuse
- Depression
- Relationships
- Parenting issues
- Teenage transitions
- Behavioural issues
- Re-partnering
- Sexuality
- Communication
- Intimacy
- Adjusting to new situations
- And much more.
Your counsellor is trained to ensure you have a respectful, safe and non-judgemental place to express your concerns and emotions. Our service is sensitive to culture, ethnicity, gender and age.
These sessions are usually 50 – 60 minutes long and would initially be held weekly and then may become fortnightly, depending on each individual.
Appointments are usually held face-to-face, however, online counselling sessions are available by prior arrangement. Anyone is invited to request a Counselling Session with Wingspan.
To request an appointment either:
- submit an online Request Counselling Form,
- call 09 630 8961 (Central Auckland) or 09 419 9853 (North Shore)
- ask a Healthcare Professional to submit a Referral Form for you.
Important:
We are not a Crisis Centre. If someone is in immediate danger phone 111 and ask for the Police. Alternatively, call the Mental Health Crisis Team on (0800 800 717).
