Flávio doesn’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach and will adapt each patient’s treatment to their individual needs. He offers general urology treatments and has a special interest in robotic surgery for prostate cancer, stone surgery with laser as well as prostate biopsy.

Originally from Brazil, Flávio studied and graduated from São Paulo State University. Having already developed an interest in minimally invasive procedures, it was while on observership at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA, that his passion for robotic surgery and oncology flourished. Later, he undertook an Uro Oncology fellowship at Sirio Libanês Hospital, one of the most important hospitals in South America. A move to Adelaide, to work at Royal Adelaide Hospital, meant he was able to further hone his skills on a Clinical Robotic Surgery and Endo Urology fellowship.

Flávio enjoys sharing his knowledge and skills with those in training, and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Surgery, University of Auckland, where he teaches 5th year medical students.

In 2022, Flávio was granted a Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a vocationally registered urologist, a member of RACS, and the Medical Council of New Zealand. In addition, he is an international member of the American and European Association of Urology.

A move to the Bay of Plenty to work at Grace Hospital is a win-win for Flávio. Not only does it mean he has access to the only hospital with a surgical robot in the region, but he is close to mountains and the beach. When off work, he likes to enjoy the lifestyle this affords with his family, which has grown recently with the arrival of his first baby girl. He is a drummer, previously having been a member of rock bands, but as yet, has not found one to join in New Zealand.
