Description
The Audiology Department offers full hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings for all ages.
Services are provided by Audiologists who are members of the NZ Audiological Society.
Our primary role is assessing children and adults referred by medical practitioners, educational personnel and health care workers in the community. We also support the Ear, Nose and Throat specialists in outpatient clinics.
Services include:
0 months to 16 years - Diagnostic hearing assessment (tests chosen based on the age of the child)
- Auditory Brainstem Response Testing
- Visual Reinforcement Audiometry
- Play Audiometry
- Child Hearing Test / Puretone Audiometry
- Speech Testing
- Otoacoustic Emission Testing
- Immittance Audiometry
- Auditory Processing Disorder Testing
16 years and over - Diagnostic hearing assessment
- Puretone Audiometry
- Speech Testing
- Immittance Audiometry
- Auditory Processing Disorder Testing
- Ototoxic Monitoring
Hearing aid service
- We see all children until 16 yrs old or 21 if they are attending university.
- For adult hearing aid fitting services: only for those who meet the criteria for the 'Enable Hearing Aid Funding Scheme' or those with a Community Services Card or those with severe to profound hearing loss.
- Hearing aid repairs.
- We do not see patients for ACC or Veterans affairs.

Most referrals come from medical practitioners, educational personnel and health care workers in the community.
Fees and Charges Description
New Zealand citizens or those who have obtained permanent residence are entitled to publicly funded health care.
Non-residents may be required to pay for their health care.
