About the Service
 
The Pelvic Health Clinic provides help to adults for the following conditions:
 
  • stress incontinence
  • urge incontinence
  • faecal incontinence
  • pelvic floor dysfunction
  • pelvic organ prolapse
  • obstructed defaecation.

Referral Expectations

 

Self or, with the patient's permission:

  • GPs
  • hospital staff
  • specialists, and
  • other health professionals.

 

Entry Criteria

  • Adults whose continence issue has the potential to improve with physiotherapy intervention. 
  • Patients already under the care of the District Nursing Service continence nurse specialist may be transferred to the Pelvic Health Clinic in consultation with the continence nurse specialist.

  

Exclusion Criteria

  • Obstetric patients are not eligible for this service.  The Maternity Service will see patients in the antenatal period and up to 6 weeks postnatally.  If further treatment is required after this time a referral will be made to Physiotherapy Outpatients for musculoskeletal issues or to the Pelvic Health Clinic for strengthening pelvic muscles.
