Puāwai – means to flower, blossom, bloom
The Puāwai Rehabilitation Unit is an inpatient 12 bed unit focusing on rehabilitation for people primarily aged under 65 with:
- Traumatic brain injury (all ages)
- Stroke
- Neurological conditions
- Multi-trauma and orthopaedic injuries
- Reconditioning after medical or surgical illness
The Puāwai Rehabilitation Unit offers a holistic interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation that focuses on what is important to you and your whānau.
Our rehabilitation team consists of:

Rehabilitation Expectations
The rehabilitation process includes:
- Thorough interdisciplinary assessment where we can estimate your length of stay with us
- Rehabilitation planning based on your goals and what is important to you
- Building your rehabilitation timetable and planning what you need for a supported transition back to the community
Your family/whānau are welcome to be part of, and support you through, your rehabilitation journey.
