Update: Our community told us we need to make some changes. In response, we are improving the way mental health services work with you. We want to assure you we will talk with all service users and their whaanau about how changes might affect their care. If you have any questions please talk to your mental health clinician.
Early Psychosis Intervention Team (EPIT) is a mental health service for young adults aged 18 to 30 years old.
Our team support people living within the Counties Manukau region who are experiencing psychotic symptoms for the first time. We offer a youth friendly and engaging assessment process for those who might be experiencing early signs of psychosis.
We work alongside other mental health services, including Taunaki & Te Puawaitanga (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) and Adult Mental Health.

Referral Expectations
For all referrals to our service please contact Intake and Acute Assessment through the Counties Manukau Health Adult Mental Health website. A person from the Intake and Acute Assessment team may contact you and your family to discuss your needs.
Once we have received your referral we will contact you to arrange an appointment. We see clients on-site as well as at a number of satellite clinics, GP clinics, community venues or at home.
We welcome and encourage the involvement and participation of your family or other important people to appointments.
If English is your second language we can arrange an interpreter, please let us know before your first appointment. Maaori or Pacific Island cultural support is also available.

The word psychosis describes a set of symptoms that are far more common than you might think. The best way to describe psychosis is that it's like losing touch with reality. Some early signs of psychosis include: Losing that spark for the things you like to do Not wanting spend as much time with your friends or family Feeling grumpy or down Feeling scared or suspicious Feeling confused or more stressed than usual Finding it hard to concentrate at school or work Having weird or bizarre thoughts in your head Hearing or seeing things that other people can’t Looking good taking more effort than usual Behaving in a way that seems unusual or out of character Having uncontrolled anger If you are noticing this sort of thing happening to you or you have a family member experiencing this come and talk to us. Treatment options are tailored to meet individual needs and include medication, education about symptoms, psychological therapy, family meetings, support with practical issues such as benefits, linking with organisations who can assist with housing, and assistance with education and work. EPIT also works alongside primary healthcare providers, and other community based mental health services to provide general and specialist knowledge and/or supervision in early psychosis intervention. This phoneline operates between 5pm and Midnight, seven days a week, and will connect you with a trained peer support worker who will listen to your experience and help you access further help if needed.
