Description
Inpatient mental health services are delivered through Tumanako - a 29 bed inpatient unit at Whangārei Hospital and He Manu Pae - a six bed subacute unit based in a community setting.
Staff
All Northland DHB Mental Health and Addiction Services have a multidisciplinary team (MDT) of health professionals who work together with the service user and their family to ensure they receive integrated care to help with their recovery and discharge.
The Northland DHB has kaumātua and kuia available to provide cultural support to patients/service users/tangata whaiora and their whānau, if required.

Tumanako is a 29 bed inpatient unit for people experiencing an acute phrase of their psychiatric illness, or who are in need of a period of close observation and/or intensive investigation and/or intervention, where this is unable to be safely provided within the client's home or less acute treatment facility. Our Service supports all age groups (Child, Youth, Adult, Older adult), who are experiencing acute symptoms.

Entry and admission can be initiated through one of Mental Health Services three crisis teams, or local Community Mental Health & Addiction Teams or as a 'Transfer of Care' from another inpatient unit or General Hospital.

He Manu Pae Sub-Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit
He Manu Pae is a six bed subacute unit for people over the age of 18 years and is based in a community setting. He Manu Pae has a recovery focus with all clients supported to be part of their individual care plan. He Manu Pae has a small team of a nurse, auxiliary workers and an occupational and social worker assisting clients in their recovery journey. Our Service supports all age groups (Child, Youth, Adult, Older adult), who are experiencing acute symptoms.
