The Urgent Response Service is a 24/7 mental health crisis response line. Calls are answered by the Te Toka Tumai Auckland Contact Call Centre. You will be phoned back by the Urgent Response Service, this usually happens within 10 minutes.
Each phone call that relates to a person is triaged. This could be talking to the person and/or the people around them that are concerned about their mental health. A plan will be made with the person and their support people. This could include a face to face assessment in the community or at a mental health centre or being referred back to the the GP or other supports in the community. The Urgent Response Service sees people who need to be seen with a 72 hour period.
The Urgent Response Service is made up of clinicians rostered from the Community Planned Acute Care (PAC) teams from each of the 4 Community Mental Health centres in the Te Toka Tumai Auckland catchment. There are 4-5 staff on call between 8am and 11pm, 7 days a week. There is one staff member on overnight, who has access to support from the registrar doctors, on-call consultant psychiatrists and other clinical staff. All URS staff are Duly Authorised Officers (DAO's).
The URS team are often the first point of contact with mental health services.
