Description

Update: Our community told us we need to make some changes. In response, we are improving the way mental health services work with you. We want to assure you we will talk with all service users and their whaanau about how changes might affect their care. If you have any questions please talk to your mental health clinician.

Who Are We?

The Regional Dual Disability Mental Health Service provides support for people with intellectual disability who also have significant mental health concerns. We serve people across the Auckland and Northland regions. We also provide support and advice for some of the families/whaanau, carers and professionals who support this community.

Our small team consists of nurses, psychologists and a consultant psychiatrist.

We are part of the services provided by Counties Manukau Health Adult Mental Health.

Who Do We See?

Our services are customised to the mental health needs of people with intellectual disability. We provide support for people living in the entire Auckland Region as well as Northland. The geographical area we support stretches from Mercer to the top of Northland, and includes Counties Manukau, Auckland, Waitemata and Northland DHBs.

Where Will You See Us?

Our clinics are located at 6/17 Lambie Drive, Manukau.  We are also able to visit service users and their family, whaanau or carers in their homes.

Want To Find Out More?

Mental health issues in people with intellectual disability may sometimes be difficult to detect. They may lead to changed behaviour (e.g. increased irritability, changes in bodily function and skills of independence). Some people without effective verbal communication skills may not be able to communicate their needs, which can lead to misunderstandings. Epilepsy and other medical conditions may also impact on mental health.
